I decided to upgrade the Heat Sink and fan on my Core i7 860 CPU. The idle and full load temperature left something to be desired. The idle temperatures were around 35-40 degrees Celsius and under full load testing with Prime95, I would reach 80-83 degrees Celsius.
Here is the new Thermalright MUX-120 for a socket 1156 CPU.
Here is what it looks like installed in my Antec P183 case on my Gigabyte P55M-UD4 motherboard. Below it is my eVGA 8800GT graphics card.
Here you can see the size difference between the Thermalright and the stock Intel HSF.
Here are some temperature tests I ran using Prime 95 and Argus monitor for about 10 minutes. You can see that the highest they get is only a bit over 50 degrees Celsius. With the stock Intel cooler I was reaching 80 degrees Celsius and higher with the same test.
Here you can see how quickly the cores cool off after stopping Prime95. It only takes about 3 minutes for them to go back down to 20 degrees Celsius.
